My Greatest Moment

I am fortunate in the sense that I enjoy the human/conversational aspect of healthcare the most, and that really drives me on a regular basis. Every time I get to spend a relatively unrestricted amount of time with a patient, I am able to learn things about them and myself that aids me in being able to work with them. In addition, the things I learn are priceless, as I am able to apply this knowledge in future situations. Sometimes this manifests as useful questions to prompt with, things to avoid saying, or ways to motivate/provide positive reinforcement.

One of my greatest moments with WoW was when I was coaching with one of my classmates. We saw a patient who was quite easy to talk to and very receptive to the information that we had at our disposal. It was nice to be with my classmate, since she is quite knowledgeable and had some good questions to ask that resulted in some insightful answers. This patient seemed to have gone through quite a bit, but had learned from their experiences and actively wanted to make a change for themselves and to be a good example for their sons. It was unfortunate that it took such suffering and difficulty to reach that point, but I am glad they had that revelation.

A few days later we were informed that the attending physician was pleased that we had that conversation with one of their patients (not sure if it was the same patient), but receiving some positive feedback was quite nice. Of course this is not necessary as just having the opportunity to chat with people is always a pleasure, but it was definitely nice to know that we may have had a positive interaction with a patient.
